On December 25, 2025, at 10 AM, Tri-Service General Hospital held the topping ceremony for the newly constructed “Critical Care Medical Building” at its Neihu campus, marking the final stage of the main structural construction. Once completed, the new building will significantly enhance the emergency and critical care capacity in the Taipei metropolitan area, and contribute to the development of a more comprehensive military medical system for national defense.

The ceremony was officiated by Major General Cai Jian-Song, Director of the Military Medical Bureau, Major General Cai Yi-Ting, President of Tri-Service General Hospital, and Mr. Zeng Guo-Zhan, President of Yongqing Construction, who together led military medical personnel and the construction team in offering prayers for the successful completion of the project.

In his speech, Director Major General Cai Jian-Song emphasized that the topping ceremony not only strengthens the cohesion of the construction team but also signals that Tri-Service General Hospital will showcase a new image in terms of infrastructure, professional talent training, and medical advancements. He pointed out that the new building will effectively support military medical operations, providing high-quality services to both military personnel and civilians while safeguarding public health. Upon completion, the Critical Care Medical Building will add 43 intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 173 acute care beds, increasing the total capacity by 216 beds. This will play a crucial role in expanding overall medical capacity and serve as an important foundation for Tri-Service General Hospital’s continued progress toward becoming a top-tier medical center.

President Major General Cai Yi-Ting highlighted that since the relocation to the Neihu campus in 2000, Tri-Service General Hospital has adhered to its core values of “Care, Quality, Discipline, and Innovation.” In response to advances in medical technology and the challenges posed by an aging society, the new Critical Care Medical Building is designed to include:
1.High-End Critical Care Facilities: This will include specialized areas for surgery, intensive care units, cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, thoracic surgery, and dermatology.
2.Optimized Holistic Care Spaces: The building will include general acute care beds and flexibly utilize the space of both the old and new buildings. Smart medical systems will be integrated to reduce the burden on healthcare professionals.
3.Strengthening Local Healthcare: The new building will improve vertical integration with regional hospitals and clinics, ensuring smooth two-way referrals and enhancing acute post-care policies.

The construction plan covers two main projects: the “Multilevel Parking Tower” and the “Critical Care Medical Building.” A phased approach will be adopted: the parking tower is expected to open in July 2026, which will effectively ease parking demand on the campus, while the Critical Care Medical Building is scheduled for completion in July 2027 and will begin operations shortly thereafter.
Director Cai Jian-Song further elaborated on the overall construction strategy, noting that Tri-Service General Hospital is simultaneously pushing forward five major construction projects. The Critical Care Medical Building is the first of these projects, followed by the construction of nurse and staff housing, a proton therapy building, a surgical simulation training center, and a military medicine building atop the existing parking garage. These developments will enter an intensive phase of construction over the next 5 to 10 years. The hospital plans to integrate advanced medical equipment and AI-powered management systems to build a comprehensive, robust healthcare system, focusing on specialty medical development, smart healthcare initiatives, and expanding critical care facilities. This vision will contribute to the national healthcare system, enhancing both military medical capabilities and preventive medicine.
