In August of this year, the Tri-Service General Hospital officially released its “2024 Sustainability Report,” becoming the first military hospital in Taiwan's military health system to pass international third-party verification and issue a sustainability report. On August 14, 2025, Hospital Superintendent, Major General Chen Yuan-Hao, received the Certificate of Conformance from the AFNOR Group (French Standard Association), an international inspection and certification body.

In his speech, Superintendent Chen stated that the report was compiled according to international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework, and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards. It was also verified by the AFNOR Group under the AA1000 Accountability Principles, ensuring the transparency and credibility of the disclosed information. The report not only comprehensively reveals the hospital's achievements in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance resilience, but also continues the commitment and actions outlined in the recently signed “Sustainable Development Initiative” with the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy.

Environmental Sustainability: Tangible Results in Green Energy and Carbon Reduction
The Neihu and Tingzhou campuses of the Tri-Service General Hospital have installed 6,024 solar panels, which result in a carbon reduction equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of about 2.3 Da’an Forest Park. Additionally, 15,583 energy-efficient LED lights were replaced, high-energy-consuming chillers were updated, and an RO water recovery system was established, significantly reducing energy and water consumption. The hospital is steadily advancing towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Social Responsibility: From the Frontlines to the Community
As part of its military medical mission, the Tri-Service General Hospital enhances healthcare accessibility through telemedicine and has long been committed to community health promotion and public welfare clinics, serving remote and offshore areas such as the islands of Penghu, Spratly Islands, Pratas Islands and Matsu, as well as participating in medical aid missions in Nepal, Mongolia, and Vietnam.

Governance Resilience: Building a Sustainable Healthcare Blueprint
The hospital established a Sustainability Development Committee personally chaired by Superintendent, Major General Chen Yuan-Hao. Five deputy superintendents lead strategic teams in areas including environmental sustainability, medical resilience, social care, efficient governance, and excellence in medical care. These teams are advancing initiatives covering green procurement, smart healthcare, energy-saving carbon reduction, resource recycling, and international medical cooperation, while incorporating sustainability into the healthcare supply chain and cross-border exchanges to promote a green transformation.

The Tri-Service General Hospital’s sustainability efforts go beyond the numbers and plans in the report. From the solar panels on the hospital’s rooftop and energy-efficient LED lights in the corridors, to the medical teams providing cross-sea assistance, every detail reflects the hospital’s commitment to “Wholehearted TSGH, Holistic Care.” Moving forward, the hospital will continue to create a green, resilient, and intelligent military-civilian healthcare system through innovative medical practices and green actions, marking a new chapter in Taiwan’s sustainable healthcare.
